The top eight go straight to the round of 16, clubs placed 9th to 24th play the knockout play-offs for the remaining places. From there the competition runs as a straight knockout bracket to the final on 5 June 2027 at the Estadio Metropolitano in Madrid.

The 2026/27 Champions League season runs from 8 September 2026 to 5 June 2027. Matchday 1 takes place on 8, 9 and 10 September 2026, and matchday 8 closes the league phase on 27 January 2027. Then come the knockout play-offs in February, the round of 16 in March, the quarter-finals in April, the semi-finals across late April and early May, and the final on 5 June 2027. Thirty-six clubs play the league phase of the 2026/27 Champions League: most entered directly through their national leagues, the rest through qualifying. Among the participants are the holders Paris Saint-Germain, last season runners-up Arsenal, and also Real Madrid, Barcelona, Manchester City, Bayern Munich, Liverpool and Inter. The pairings for each matchday are set by the draw, so we do not promise specific opponents in advance: line ups are announced on the day of the match.

The 2027 Champions League final takes place on 5 June at the Estadio Metropolitano in Madrid.
