Football hospitality is a seat in the stands plus food, drinks and a separate area before the match, at half-time and after the final whistle. A regular ticket gives you a seat for the duration of the game; hospitality turns the match into an evening: the area usually opens about an hour and a half before kick-off.

What hospitality includes

Food is always included in hospitality; that is the main difference from any regular category. Drinks, a separate area and a seat in the stands are added to it, usually in the central blocks along the pitch. The dining format and the service depend on the club and the level of the package. At Real Madrid, for example, the VIP area includes catering, hostess service and a cloakroom in the halls next to the seats.

What is not included: the way to the stadium, parking and everything outside the gates. Hospitality starts at the entrance to the area and ends when you leave it.

When the area opens and how long it stays open

The area usually opens about an hour and a half, that is 90 minutes, before kick-off. The exact time depends on the club and may shift. After the final whistle the area keeps working too: in Real Madrid's boxes at the Santiago Bernabéu catering is available for another 30 minutes after the game. That is why a match with hospitality is planned as a whole evening, not two hours.

Which formats exist

Three formats found at most venues:

Shared lounge. A hall for guests of several companies, with seats in the stands nearby. Suits a couple or a small group that values service.
Restaurant. Table seating and full service, with seats in the stands separate from the hall.
Private box. A closed room for your group only, with seats in front of it. In the second-tier boxes at the Bernabéu, for example, the seats are set out on a fenced area outside the box. Suits business meetings and guests for whom privacy matters.

Which formats are available for a specific match depends on the club and the stadium.

Example: the VIP Box Azul at the Santiago Bernabéu

The VIP Box Azul sits right by the pitch, behind the players' area. A separate entrance leads straight into the box; inside there is a gastronomic menu, wines, champagne and spirits.
