The Metropolitano holds 70,813: a modern symmetrical bowl under a roof, three tiers and a lower tier that sits close to the pitch. The loudest section, in the Fondo Sur, is held by club members, and in 2027 the ground hosts the Champions League final, its second.
How the Stadium WorksThe ground in the east of Madrid is currently called the Riyadh Air Metropolitano; it was the Wanda Metropolitano from 2017 to 2022 and the Cívitas Metropolitano from 2022 to 2024. The name changes with the title sponsor while the stadium stays the same. Capacity is 70,813.
The bowl was built around an athletics stadium opened on 6 September 1994 and converted for football. Atlético moved in on 16 September 2017 from the Vicente Calderón. For a spectator that means modern geometry: a continuous oval bowl, no running track, a roof over every stand and a lower tier that comes close to the pitch all the way round.
The Metropolitano has hosted a Champions League final before, on 1 June 2019, when Liverpool beat Tottenham 2-0. On 11 September 2025 UEFA selected the ground for a second time: the 2026/27 final will be played here.
A final has its own ticketing arrangements, different from Atlético's club matches: the finalists', UEFA's and sponsors' allocations are set aside in advance, and the category plan differs from the usual club one. If you are planning a trip to the final, work from the Champions League hub rather than from this page. How to buy final tickets before the general sale is covered in our guide to the 2027 Champions League final.
The stand names are Spanish and match those at the Bernabéu, which makes it easy to confuse the two grounds. Lateral Oeste is the west side stand and the main one: dugouts, boxes, press, and the source of the television picture. Lateral Este faces it, also along the touchline.
Fondo Norte and Fondo Sur stand behind the goals. The lower tier of the Fondo Sur is home to Atlético's loudest support, and those seats are reserved for socios, the club's members, rather than sold openly. In practice that means getting into the loud section itself at the Metropolitano is harder than at many other grounds, and if you want atmosphere you should take the neighbouring sections of the same stand.
In height the ground has three tiers, named in Spanish on tickets. Grada Baja is the lower tier at the pitch, Grada Media the middle, Grada Alta the upper. Between the second and third tiers runs a band of hospitality and boxes, which is a convenient landmark: everything above it is the upper tier.
Because the bowl is new and was built in one go, the tiers are equivalent all the way round, unlike English grounds rebuilt piece by piece. The upper tier of a side stand and the upper tier behind a goal really are the same height here.
The rule is unchanged: nearer the halfway line and play reads more evenly, higher up and the shape of the teams is clearer. The Metropolitano is convenient in that the rule applies literally: the bowl is symmetrical, with no historical exceptions.
The middle tier of the side stands towards the centre of the pitch gives, in our experience, the best view: the height from which both teams are visible whole, with the roof keeping off the sun and the rain. The lower tier along the touchline gives closeness, and it is more noticeable here than at older grounds with running tracks: the pitch begins almost immediately beyond the front row. The upper tier shows the full picture. The ends are taken for the atmosphere, with the caveat that the loudest section of the Fondo Sur is held by socios.
We work with categories and stands rather than individual seats. At the Metropolitano they map out like this. VIP is hospitality: a seat in a side stand plus a lounge or a box with catering before the match, at half-time and after the whistle; the hospitality band runs between the middle and upper tiers. Premium is the central sections of the side stands on the lower and middle tiers. Category 1 is the side stands further from the centre and the middle tier. Category 2 is the stands behind the goals and the upper tier.
How the categories work at any stadium is explained in our article on football ticket categories. What a hospitality package includes and how it differs from an ordinary ticket is covered in the article on hospitality.
A substantial part of the Metropolitano bowl is held by socios and never reaches open sale at all. The club distributes what remains closer to the match. An honest seller therefore cannot quote you a row and a seat a month ahead. We confirm the category and the stand at booking; the section and the row are fixed when the club releases the seating. What else is worth checking before you pay is set out in our article on how to check a ticket reseller.
We arrange tickets for Atlético's home matches through the La Liga hub: Barcelona on 8 November 2026. European nights run separately: Manchester United on 13 October 2026 and Bayern Munich on 3 November 2026. Name the match, the number of guests and what matters more, the view or the atmosphere, and your concierge confirms which sections are open for that date.
Kick-off dates and times can move at the broadcasters' request. Availability in each category for a specific date is confirmed by your concierge before payment.
Short answers to the questions LuxTicket clients ask before an Atlético match at the Metropolitano. Which sections are open on a given date depends on the club and the competition and is confirmed by your concierge before payment.
